  • You MUST provide your students with your email address BEFORE they are able to complete their Participant Registration Form. Once they have completed their Participant Registration form, you will receive an email confirmation that they have done so. If you have a student that says they have completed the form, yet you have not received a confirmation of such, please check your email spam folder. If there is still question, contact our office.
  • Fine Arts Coordinators will have added time to collect your Participants’ payments and compile all of your needed information after the Participant deadline, before your Church Registration deadline.

It is your responsibility as the Church Fine Arts Coordinator to make sure early registration is done in time for your participants to receive the early pricing. If you have students who register by the Participant early registration deadline (March 19th), but you do not submit the Church Registration in time to receive this pricing (March 22nd), then you will still be responsible for the Regular (not Early) Registration Pricing.  Your church may absorb this fee if necessary.

If you require paper forms, please contact our office to obtain.  ISM will only be accepting online registration forms, so you will be responsible for collecting and entering any paper forms obtained from your students if you choose this method. Please note: If you will be entering your students’ registrations online from collected paper forms, you will need to also bring paper forms containing original parent & participant signatures to the Fine Arts Festival.

It is your responsibility to make sure your students are aware of deadlines. They will be strictly enforced.

If you have any students who will have not yet used, and will be using, their 2020 $25 Merit Award Certificate, please indicate this on the Church Registration form, and then mail the original Certificate to the ISM office postmarked no later than March 29th, 2021 (which is also the payment postmark deadline if paying by check). If the original certificate is not received, the discount will be removed and you will be responsible for the full payment.

Available for purchase for $8+ through the online registration portal through May 31st (for Breakaway Kids) or June 28th (for Breakaway). If we have extras, they will be available in the merch store for $12 during the event.

A registration is not considered completed until the $100 (students/counselor assists) and/or $45 (counselors/support staff) deposits have been secured (parents, please remit payment to your church, you will not pay ISM directly). This deposit MUST include payment for t-shirt and high ropes course add-ons. Breakaway Kids initial deposit should be postmarked by June 3 and Breakaway Teen deposits should be postmarked by June 15. Deposits, t-shirt and high ropes fees are non-refundable and will be forfeited in the event a person chooses not to attend the program they have registered for. Registration must be PAID IN FULL on or before the first day of your enrolled program. No deposits will be accepted without the students(s) application submitted. Payments should be made to your church and they will forward to us.

Refunds for students who are unable to attend must be requested with an official Refund Request Form which can be obtained through our office. It is desired that monies are transferred to another student with a balance from your group first. If there is no one to transfer funds too then a Refund will be submitted for approval less the $100 non-refundable deposit, t-shirt fee and high ropes fee. Refunds will not be issued for those who simply choose not to attend after their registered week registration is closed, as they have taken a spot where another person may have potentially been turned away. Refunds will NOT be processed until the END of Breakaway season. We cannot refund money for a partial week of a Breakaway Program or if a student has been expelled.

What to bring to Breakaway

Sleeping bag or sheets, blanket, pillow, towel, & toiletries, recreational clothes & tennis shoes, clothing appropriate for services, swimwear (no bikinis) & beach towel. Bible & journal, spending money for snacks & merch store and money for offering. Please label all items as students are responsible for personal belongings, ISM is not liable for lost or stolen items.

No weapons, tobacco, electronic devices, laptops, video games, silly string, water guns, water balloons, sidewalk paint, tape, or spray paint products (including colored hair spray) will be permitted.

ISM Special Needs Breakaway Policy

Students participating in any and all Illinois Student Ministries Summer Programs (Breakaway and Breakaway Kids) must be able to conduct themselves in a manner that does not disrupt the mission and objectives of the Breakaway program. The basic supervision ratio of a student to counselor is 5:1 for Breakaway and 5:2 for Breakaway Kids.

Students must be able to obey directions, follow accordingly, and obey rules for their own safety. In addition, Students must be able to handle themselves appropriately during activities such as free time, when general supervision is provided for the entire facility. (Students are not always specifically with their own Counselors. At times throughout the day, they are under general supervision).

The ISM would love to see every student attend our summer program; however, we have limitations due to our volunteer staff and financial considerations that confine us to our basic ratios of 5:1. Should a student require further assistance due to physical, mental or social disabilities, a student's guardian may choose the following alternate arrangement for their child, in coordination with your Church's Coordinator.

The alternate arrangement would be for the student's guardian to provide a personal chaperone (of the same gender as the child) that would be the student's “one-on-one” counselor, who would be able to provide assistance in the bathroom/showers if needed.

The guardian would be required to cover all the expenses for this one-on-one counselor, in addition to the child’s registration. The student and one-on-one assistant would be assigned a room with other students, but that one-on-one assistant would only be responsible for the specific child.

Each Breakaway Program has varying degrees of outdoor terrain that may create mobility challenges for physically impaired participants. Every reasonable accommodation will be offered based on the limited availability of staff. Guardians should consider this and make appropriate inquiries prior to registering a child for any of our Breakaway Programs.

For security purposes, the personal counselor would be required to complete an adult volunteer application provided by Illinois Student Ministries, which includes a background check.

Cell Phone Policy

ISM highly discourages students from bringing cell phones or any other electronic device to Breakaway with them for many reasons. First and foremost, student privacy and safety. Pictures are not allowed to be taken in rooms, however there are moments when the counselor cannot always monitor this is being upheld. Even if accidental, students may be caught in moments of vulnerability while in their rooms and ISM has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to sharing photos (inappropriate or otherwise) without the consent of the student(s) in them. Secondly, phones/technology prove to be a distraction from allowing students to fully engage in the Breakaway experience with their group. Also, ISM will not be liable for any lost, broken or stolen devices. If they choose to bring them, devices are the sole responsibility of the student.

Should you choose to allow your student to bring their device, the following rules apply:

No Pictures or Videos taken in the room or locker rooms (pools)

Students will NOT receive access to property WiFi

No inappropriate internet sites

No taking pictures or videos of people without their consent

ISM zero tolerance policy gives ISM and Breakaway staff permission to discipline any student who breaks these rules, instigates or participates in cyber-bullying in any way or misuses a device in ways not listed as they see fit. Disciplinary actions, depending on the severity of the situation, may include removal from Breakaway and reports to the authority. If a student is expelled from Breakaway it is the parents'/guardians' responsibility to retrieve them immediately.

Our IT Department monitors all accessible internet networks and will notify Breakaway staff of the same.

Breakaway is available for those students coming out of 6th -12th Grade. Counselors for our Breakaway Teen Program must be 21 years of age or older and Support Staff must be 18 years of age or older.

No phone registrations, nor incomplete registrations will be accepted. Walk-ons will be accepted based on our capacity and counselor to child ratio as well as having a parent release on file. All monies must be received by registration check-in on Monday for a student to attend. T-shirt pre-orders will be cut-off two weeks before the 1st week of Breakaway - June 28, 2021.
